One of our most promising junior players, Diego Pita, travelled to Essex, representing Swavesey at one of the first junior tournaments post-lockdown.
Diego faced a challenging draw, with several strong junior players from the area playing the event. He managed to overcome the number 1 seed in the second round, a U17 player who had the physical advantage over young Diego who is still in the U15 category. Following a hard day of matches, he faced the second seed in the final, a U19 girl, and managed to back up his earlier performances, winning 3-0.
This is an exciting return to competition for Diego, showing the progress he has made during the last year and a half, despite the difficult conditions faced with lockdowns and the closure of courts. We look forward to his return to the junior national circuit when restrictions allow.
