Ladies become Cambridgeshire Champions

The ladies’ team finished the season with emphatic strength with their back-to-back wins in the semis and then finals of the Portway Perpetual Cup competition, the knock-out team competition in which clubs across Cambridgeshire compete.

The ladies faced Hunts County in the semi, whom they dispatched 5-0, before taking on Cambridge University in the final. A tight match, but the team squeezed through 3-2, with key performances all the way through the order.

A big well done to all the players who represented Swavesey and a huge thank you to the team’s supporters. This is the first time in the history of the Ladies’ Cup that Swavesey has taken away the silverware, with results dating back to the 1980s but zero appearances from Swavesey (a.k.a. Fenland). Special congratulations to Madeleine Walpert in her debut as captain for her efforts in leading the team to victory.

This completes a highly successful season for the women, who also came second in the league. We pride ourselves on our thriving women’s section, and are always looking to welcome new players to the club, whether as team players, total beginners, or anything in between. Please reach out if you want to get involved!
