There’s lots going on at the club to help you meet people to play with, and there’s something for every level.
Box leagues
We run around 15 box leagues each month. The standard is suitable even for complete beginners with the lowest leagues suitable for those who have never played. Higher boxes are more competitive and the players in the top boxes are experienced team players.
There are around 5 players in each box and players arrange matches themselves at times that are mutually convenient across the month. Roughly speaking, players get 4 matches a month, and those who win their games move up to a more challenging box, such that everyone meets players of their own level. It’s a great way to meet players similar in level, challenge yourself against new opponents, and structure your monthly squash.

Group sessions
We currently have three group sessions running weekly, suitable for different levels:
- Improvers – suitable for less experienced players – an informal gameplay session where you can play a variety of players and meet new people – 10-11:30am Sundays
- Intermediate training – suitable for intermediate level players – drills followed by games – 4:45-6:15pm Saturdays
- Team training – suitable for advanced players – drills followed by games – 5:30-7pm Sundays
All of these sessions are a great way to meet other players of a similar level and to get involved at the club. Everyone is very friendly and encouraging to new players, so we highly recommend joining in. All sessions are free of charge and players sign up weekly so there is no specific commitment required.

Juniors
We have a thriving junior programme suitable for all levels. Led by our junior coach Will Wilkinson, there are two group sessions each week (during term time):
10-11am – new starters and younger juniors (7+)
11am-12pm – more experienced players and older juniors (up to 18)
No experienced required and the only equipment needed is non-marking shoes.
Some of the most experienced juniors join in with the adult activities such as the box leagues or adult group sessions, or even represent the club in team matches.

Teams and competition
Swavesey has two men’s teams and one ladies’ teams in the Cambridgeshire League, playing in various divisions. We are always welcoming of new players and have regular team training to prepare for the matches against other clubs in the area. Team squash provides a great competitive structure as well as being very social. There’s often a great atmosphere and it’s fun to cheer on and support your teammates. Experienced/competitive players are encouraged to get involved!
We also run competitions and events throughout the year: tournaments, social evenings, coaching clinics, etc. There’s always something exciting going on!
