We run around 16-20 box leagues each month. The standard is suitable even for complete beginners with the lowest leagues suitable for those who have never played. Higher boxes are more competitive and the players in the top boxes are experienced team players.
There are around 5 players in each box and players arrange matches themselves at times that suit across the month. Roughly speaking players get 4 matches a month, and those who win their games move up to a more challenging box, such that everyone meets players of their own level. It’s a great way to meet players similar in level and challenge yourself against new opponents.
We often run group sessions aimed at different levels or groups. For example, on Sunday mornings 10-11:30am, we run a casual drop-in sessions suitable for less experienced players, and on Sunday evenings 5:30-7pm we run a more formal team training session suitable for those playing more competitively.
We often run beginners’ courses or other coaching courses. Please be in touch to see what’s on at the moment!
We have a thriving junior programme suitable for all levels. Led by our junior coach Will Wilkinson, there are two group sessions each week (during term time):
10-11am – new starters and younger juniors (8+)
11am-12pm – more experienced players and older juniors (up to 18)
No experienced required and the only equipment needed is non-marking shoes.
Some of the most experienced juniors join in with the adult activities such as the box leagues or adult group sessions, or even representing the club in team matches.
All our general club activities are open to any gender, and suitable for a wide range of standards. We are also the only club in the county with two teams in the Cambridgeshire League. We have a lot of enthusiastic and active women playing at all levels, including total beginners, and would highly recommend Swavesey to any ladies looking to find a squash club that caters for female players.
Swavesey has three men’s teams and two ladies’ teams in the Cambridgeshire League, playing in various divisions. We are always welcoming of new players and have regular team training to prepare for the matches against other clubs in the area. Team squash provides a great competitive structure as well as being very social. There’s often a great atmosphere and it’s fun to cheer on and support your teammates. Experienced/competitive players are encouraged to get involved!
